ZLM Lessons Learned: Part I
I recently had the opportunity to deploy another Novell ZENWorks Linux Management (ZLM) system that manages 7000 (yes, seven thousand) Linux servers and workstations. Here are some lessons that I learned:
- There's an undocumented limit of 500 registration rules.
- The default JVM sizes of the zenserver and zlmmirror daemons are too small.
- In addition to the Preboot-Services, I also enabled a PXE menu for allowing on-the-fly OS installation options.
I'm still impressed with the capabilities of the ZLM system and encourage anyone looking for an automated way of managing large numbers of Linux devices to consider Novell's ZENWorks Linux Management solution.
